Sanding will begin when it is deemed that road conditions become slippery - it is best to apply a coating of salt sand mixture before snow accumulates more than one inch. The Richmond Police Department will monitor conditions and report findings to the Public Works director.
Snow plowing will begin when snow accumulates to two inches, and outside vendors will be called to augment town resources. During times of heavy snowfall, the collector streets will receive the priority.Side streets and developments may be bypassed initially. All streets will be plowed and are on an assigned route.
The Town of Richmond is divided into six plow routes. Each route is designed to take approximately four hours to complete a cycle of plowing and sanding. The mileage of each route varies and it starts from the facility located on Buttonwoods Road.
Each Plow route has the same driver assigned and the driver will follow the route in a designed pattern. The driver is familiar with problem areas associated with their assigned route and will make changes as the weather dictates.
